98 Girls Elite

The 98’ Girls Elite captured their third straight South Carolina State Cup title in December 2014 sending them to Little Rock, AR for this year’s USYS Region 3 Championships.  The team toppled CESA 98’ Challenge 6-0 in the first round of play.  In the semifinal the team then cruised to a 6-1 win over SCUFC 98’ Girls Elite to make their way into the State Championship match.  The title match was a more tightly contested affair against CESA 98’ Premier.  While dominating possession and the play they were unable to find the back of the net to open up the game.  The CESA team were well organized and made a few chances against the run of play on the break.  Finally in the 70th minute the team were able to find a quality ball into the opposition box and were dragged down for an immediately decided penalty kick.  Emmalee McCarter cooly stepped up and stroked the ball into the side netting for the 1-0 Championship win.
The team will be taking on quality opposition in the group phase at the Region 3 Championships with matches against the Austin Texans (TX-S), ranked #1 in Texas South and #25 in Region 3; the NASA 17’ Elite (GA), ranked #2 in Georgia and #6 in Region 3; the Sunrise Sting (FL), ranked #4 in Florida but #5 in Region 3.  Having played open and exciting games against both Sunrise and NASA in R3PL East League play this past fall the team hopes to continue to build on their 2013 and 2014 Region 3 Championships Quarterfinal appearances.  Getting the best of the time draw with three cool 7:45 am games the team is excited about their upcoming experience!  Team Members include:  Maggie Berlin, Hannah Betfort, Alyssa Bosak, Gabby Bosak, Lulu Jennings, Mckenzie McAvoy, Madeline Job, Maddy Chamness, Grace Pouch, Tate Pouch, Abigail Tickle, Alexis Sanchez, Emmalee McCarter, Ansley Bucknam, Bailey Champ, and Eva Dailey.  The team is coached by Kian Brownlee and Chloe Zmolek.
